You should never leave a baby to sleep in his car seat. I haven’t heard that it’s bad for their back, but they’ve found that infants under 6 months who are sitting in the 45degree angle on their carseat have breathing problems, to the point of death (20% will have an oxygen deprivation level that can be dangerous.) They’re recommending that the maximum time in a car seat (or any other seat that is at that angle) should be restricted to 2 hours a day. That’s not to say he shouldn’t be in a car seat, but only when you’re traveling in a car.

Your mum is right, and honestly if prams were available where I am then I’d buy one. You don’t have to use them just on walks either, but as a sort of bassinet. The large wheels make it so you can move it where you are in the house and keep your baby close while they sleep. I’ve only heard great things about them, being used around the house as a bassinet and helping as well as outside. And the flat position makes it so your baby is in a more natural position.

For me, we’re planning on getting an Infant Seat for the car, but really limiting trips and when we get out then I’ll put him in a baby carrier or baby sling (there’s been no lowered oxygen levels tested there, and it will keep my hands free for my 2 year old.)
